We are a group of landowners and recreational users with deep personal interests in the Modena Canyon and Hamlin Valley area of Western Iron County. We're working to save this beautiful area from destruction by a mining company that wants to turn the canyon's unique geological formations into cement mix.
Help Save Modena Canyon
A St. George mining company is seeking government approval to mine ancient deposits of volcanic rock in the most scenic part of Modena Canyon. Our goal is to mobilize people who care, and to wake up county, state and federal officials to the tremendous harm this project would cause if we're foolish enough to let it happen.

News Flash
TheBureau of Land Management has released a draft Environmental Assessment for the proposed mining project that is wholly unacceptable. There has been no public scoping effort to determine the community's concerns, or to clarify conflicts between the plan described by BLM and the plan described in the Conditional Use Permit that was approved by the Iron County Planing Commission. BLM has offered only a 15 day comment period with virtually no effort to reach interested parties. Check our What's Happening page to see the BLM's draft environmental assessment and the applicants previous response to our community's health, safety, and welfare concerns.
